Female Breast Reduction

Until recently, the only method of breast reduction available was a surgical procedure called breast reduction ( Mammoplasty). This procedure involves cutting out a section of the breast, repositioning the nipple and elevating the whole breast. A mammoplasty involves undergoing major surgery that could take several hours and hospitalization for several days. There is extensive recuperation, significant discomfort including bruising and pain, extensive scarring and risk of infection. The loss of nipple sensation can occur due to relocation and breast-feeding is usually not possible following a mammoplasty so it could not be done in younger age group who hasn’t completed the family.

Tumescent Liposuction is now a proven means for reducing breast size. Tumescent liposuction safely reduces breast size a few cup sizes (depending on fat content) with almost no visible scarring. Extremely small and thin micro cannulas are used for less trauma and smoother results. It is a day care procedure which has a faster recovery period than the more conventional mammoplasty.

Reasons For Breast Reduction

one (1)

To ease the discomfort of heavy breasts

two (1)

Improve posture and or back and neck pain.

three

To ease the anxiety, and embarrassment of heavy, big breasts.

Female Breast Reduction Procedure

Small incisions (about 0.5mm) are made in the crease of the breast base.

Tumescent fluid is infused into the breasts then gently sucked out with the fat through very fine cannula.

Breast liposuction can reduce breast size between 1/3 to 1/2 of the current size. The older patients usually have larger amounts of fat and therefore they have greater degree of size reduction .The amount of fat removed varies from about 200mls-1200mls of fat per breast.

Larger breasts often have a fat pad, which continues under the arm, this can be also be removed at the same time. Elevation of the breast occurs due to the weight and size of the breast being reduced. the average nipple elevation following breast liposuction was 3.8cm with a maximum of 8cm.those who have large nipple areola complex which can be excised simultaneously to give a better cosmetic appearance and younger look.
The whole procedure takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours depending on breast size.

Female Breast Reduction Recovery Process

It is essential that a compression garment is worn for 3 – 6 months. Tenderness, swelling and bruising around the breasts is normal and usually disappear within 2 weeks. It is normal for the tumescent fluid and a light staining of blood to seep from the holes for the first 24 – 498hours following the procedure. These small nicks heal quickly and are virtually undetectable over time.
